Our field guide “Guide to the Berries of the Northwest Territories” is complete! The guide was produced as part of our project on Indigenous knowledge of berries in the NWT. The guide includes information on berries in the NWT, including species descriptions and range maps, as well as quotes from Indigenous knowledge holders we interviewed through our project and details on uses of berries. The guide was written by Claire Singer, Erin Cameron, Megan Francisco (UVic), Noemie Boulanger-Lapointe (UVic), and members of the Indigenous knowledge advisory board from the project, with artwork by Lesley Singer and graphic design by Fuse Consulting Ltd. The guide can be downloaded here.

The EDIA book club is taking a break this year. In previous sessions, we have discussed the following: 1) EDIA issues in universities in particular (An Inclusive Academy by Abigail J. Stewart and Virginia Valian), 2) issues that women face both inside and outside of academia (Stop Fixing Women by Catherine Fox & Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong — and the New Research That’s Rewriting the Story by Angela Saini), 3) EDIA issues faced by people of colour (Black, brown, bruised: How racialised STEM education stifles innovation by Ebony Omotola McGee & Sharks Don’t Sink: Adventures of a Rogue Shark Scientist by Jasmine Graham), and 4) EDIA issues faced by Indigenous Peoples (Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer). Helen and Erin started it/organized it in 2022-2023, and Maheshi, Audrey, and Ben organized it in 2024-2025.
